Overview
Why visit Lamu Island
A UNESCO World Heritage site and the oldest continuously inhabited Swahili settlement in East Africa — still car-free, still sailing dhows.
Lamu Old Town is a maze of narrow alleys, coral-stone houses, and intricately carved doors. Donkeys and dhows remain the main transport. The island's pace is slow and its culture deeply Swahili — a place for reading, sailing, and long seafood dinners on rooftops.
